ANSWERS TO IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

Has anyone sinned so much God will not forgive them?

Many people carry with them the guilt of sin. Sometimes a sincere person who wants to come to Christ and live a life pleasing to Him feels they may be excluded because of sin in their life. Often there is one particular sin which troubles them deeply and they are afraid God will not forgive them.

Fortunately, the Bible speaks clearly about this issue. The apostle Paul considered himself the worst of sinners.

We have all sinned. We are guilty two ways. We were born with original sin and we live out that original sin by further sinning.

It is a joyful experience to be certain we are completely forgiven.

Chapter 6 of this book tells us we can be forgiven regardless of what sins or the number of sins we have committed.

On page 56 of this book it says, “As sin is the most serious dilemma of human beings, the Gospel is the best news ever to come to us. The good news is summarized in the most familiar verse in all of Scripture, John 3:16 'For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' That’s the wonder and wonderfulness of the cross of Christ." You can take full advantage of the forgiveness and eternal salvation that Christ paid for, in full, on the cross.

Then on page 67 it says, “There are unique aspects to the Gospel. Becoming a Christian begins a personal relationship with Christ. The reason this salvation is available to us is because, though we are all sinners by nature and by choice, God intervened on our behalf. We can enter a holy heaven because, when Christ died on the cross, He paid the complete price for our sins. He made us both sin-free and gave us His righteousness. We can, through this relationship with Christ, stand before God some day in the righteousness of Christ.”

There are difficult verses in this area such as in Hebrews 6 and 10. These are addressed in this book and again, the reader can find joy and confidence in their forgiveness.

What if a person only thinks they are going to Heaven?

Statistics vary but up to 99% of Americans believe they are going to heaven.  The Bible says the road to heaven is a narrow road and only a few are on it. It also says the road to an eternity without Christ is narrow and few are on it. You may want to look up Matthew 7:13-14.

I can’t imagine anyone wanting to go to hell. Jesus died for whoever will come to Him in faith and repentance. And, it’s a wonderful life! I have heard a Christian say “If I am wrong, I have lost nothing. I have had a wonderful life. If a non-Christian is wrong, he has lost an eternity in heaven and will be among those who go to what the Bible calls 'the lake of fire.'”

Many, if not most, people believe their good works will take them to heaven. They know a lot of people who live more corrupt lives than they do and have the feeling God grades on the curve. This is not so. Jesus makes that very clear. Chapter 3 of this book is entitled, “What If You Only Think You Are Going to Heaven?” It clearly explains what it takes to go to heaven. And, by the way, can you think of anything more important than that? Given the uncertainty of life, the brevity of it, and the eternality of the next life, how can we not prioritize this issue in our lives?

Chapter 3 also investigates the reliability of the Bible.

What if a person has not been predestined for salvation?

The issue of predestination has been debated for millenniums.

I remember as a child, in all seriousness, going to my mother and asking “How can I become a Christian if I am not predestined to be one?” Good question! Are there answers? Yes! Be sure to read Chapter 9 where this is a central issue.  I believe you will be encouraged..

There are those who deny the teaching of predestination. However, Scripture frequently speaks of it. In fact, some of the words of Jesus state that no one can come to Him unless they are drawn by the Holy Spirit.

Some of the debate on this subject is impacted with emotion. Many have their heels dug in and can’t imagine any view but their own.

This book takes the subject seriously and lets the reader know, without question, how they can end their worry and come to Christ. This doesn’t mean the concept of predestination isn’t in the Bible. It is! At the same time, it is essential to know what it is and what it isn’t and how it interfaces with the many verses which say, in effect, if you want to come to Christ and spend eternity with him, you can.

I had read the Bible enough to know predestination is real. The question I asked my mother was a logical one. It can trouble a person a great deal. That’s why, in this book, I deal carefully and biblically with this issue.

If you are among those who are concerned about this, you will find great help, encouragement, and joy from Chapter 9.

Can I be absolutely sure I am going to Heaven?

This book gives us such good news! The answer is “Yes!” But it doesn’t simply give us a “Yes!” but rather, it gives us the route to take in order to get the “Yes!”—to be certain of heaven. Note again the subheading of the book: Defeating Doubts and Confirming Certainty. How can this be true? Because the Scriptures, which are not man-made ideas but rather the inspired Word of God, tell us we can know! We can be certain of going to heaven.

There are two tragedies in the world today. One is people who think they are going to heaven but are not on that road. The other is people who really are on that road to heaven but are troubled with doubts. Some have occasional doubts and some have obsessive doubts and many are somewhere in-between. As you read the endorsements for this book, you will note that a person who has doubts is not alone. There are a number of reasons why doubts are so pervasive. One reason is the doubts of true Christians, which is explained in Chapter 1. Another reason is Scripture states that God has “set eternity in the hearts of men.” If a person has not come into a saving relationship with Christ, doubts are a frequent response.

On page 54 of this book it says, “What could be more serious than coming to the end of life, standing before God at Judgment Day and, to your surprise, discovering you are not one of those getting into heaven?" Most people in America believe they are going to heaven. Think of the horror of finding out, when it is too late to make a personal decision for Christ, that you are not one of those who will enter heaven.

My plea is for you to know for sure you are going to heaven. This is the most important issue of a person’s life and it is the purpose of the book.
